Kumquats

Today I won the game of life a little bit.

I found Kumquat trees!! I don't think I can overemphasize how much I love finding edible things outside, it's one thing I really miss about home. Here we have lots of olives (can't eat those raw though), there are a few pomegranate trees, and fig trees, lots of fig trees.

I was so excited this morning I told the first person I saw.

"A Kumquat? What is that?"

She didn't share my excitement. I told other people, similar reactions.

GUYS! KUMQUATS! This is in the special section at Safeway! This is free fruit. "Here, try one"

*sour face* "I don't know, I want it more sweet."

Whatever, more for me, you people don't know good things.

I found them inside a building, actually. We walk through a different campus to get to our university (it's small), and in one of the buildings there's an outside area, just a little square, and since I'm constantly looking for food in trees like a cave woman, I noticed orange things handing off. Apricots? Nope. Kumquats.

It was a little weird when I walked back in, pockets full, and a professor asked me if he could help me find something, because normal students don't wander into dead-ends knowingly. No no, I am exactly where I want to be, thank you very much.
